Less Than Enough
Less than Enough..
All over the world people survive on less than their bodies and minds think they need. Or is it possible that the less they have, the less a person thinks he or she needs to exist?
I do know that there was a time in my life when I lived in a roach-infested, mice-infested apartment in NYC that, at this point in my life, I would think was a nightmare. At that moment in time, I thought the apartment in midtown was a gift from God. I lived off of generic mac and cheese, Ramen noodles and chicken thighs. My kitchen table was an ironing board. The delight of being on your own in NYC at 22. Everything looks golden. Even the rats.
As time goes by and you realize the comforts of nice things, you never really want to go back to the scarcity of old. But, let's face it, sometimes you have to. Sometimes it's good for the soul.
I had a good friend yesterday lose his job of 6 years because the mom and pop company he worked for went out of business. He walked into work, and they asked for everyone's keys. It was that simple and that quick. Your life changes. You go from eating steak to tuna fish from a can and living on unemployment checks in one minute... That is, until you meet life with a new outlook.
I told my friend on his way home from work that day. Stop at the CVS on the corner and get a notebook. Don't waste anytime mourning. Begin to dream in this book. Write about everything you wish you had and wish you could do. Discover the blocks that have kept you from your life's biggest dreams.
Maybe, just maybe, this is the chance you have to remake and reshape your life. I talked to him later that night and he had written 6 pages and was refreshed. A little scared, but already had begun to rethink his life and begin to rebuild.
This is God in action... Every angel in heaven can be on your side in every situation if you let them. Nothing is so bad you can't reframe it in your mind to make it a movement forward in your life.
And so it is!
