A Baguette from Heaven

A wonderful caterer girlfriend of mine is on a spiritual quest. She is trying to rid her life of some stress, which we all need to do. She had been veraciously reading from all different genres about God and his sources of love and food for the soul...

Yesterday after a long time reading and meditating, she went for a run. About ten minutes into it, she felt something hit her in the head. She looked down and saw a baguette on the ground. She looked around her. No bird, no mean boy, nobody around. Just an open sky and a funny God saying, "Here is your daily bread!" And I love that since she is a chef, it wasn't just a slice of plain bread, it was a French Baguette that stung a little. I'm still laughing as I write this. She told me I could share this, so she can add or subtract from my story if she chooses to.

What a wonderful God we have. We wonder if God exists, and we get hit on the head with a reminder like the Jews saw in the dessert daily with the manna from heaven.

One day I was on a train in New York City trying to decide whether I should move to Nashville to become a Christian Contemporary singer. I had already been offered a record deal. This was twenty-two years ago. This was a hard decision, because I loved NYC and I had hundreds of friends there who were my family.

I sat on a crowded subway train adjacent to a bag woman who smelled of garbage, liquor, and urine. Had it not been so crowded, I would have moved, but I was tired from work and I wanted to sit. She was chattering away and yelling at phantoms around her. Suddenly, though, she looked at me and she said, "God says, Move to Nashville!"

I was stunned. I wanted to go over to her and shake her and say, "Say what? huh? Did you just say what I thought you said?"

But I just sat and took it all in. In that moment, I realized that God could use a donkey if God wanted to, to speak to me. My own mind was looking for signs and words in conventional ways.

Listen, God is in everything and in everyone--and is the fiber of all that exists. Don't limit God, ever. The Bible says that he instructed Satan (the adversary) to tempt in the Bible. If you think that God isn't over all things, you limit the very powers that created ALL. If you do that, then you stop the flow of energy that can turn your life from poor to rich, from limited to unlimited, from stuck to liberated.

Love is all around you. In the trees, in the food, in the animals, in your friends, in your work. Open your eyes today and take a good look at God. You are surround by, encompassed about, and covered in God's unlimited power and love today.
