Can You Smile with Your Heart?

Can You Smile with Your Heart?

I was looking through some old pictures yesterday and noticed a reflection of a few friends who had to conjure up a smile when photographed. In the photos, as in life, they almost never look like they are happy. I can only remember a few times, in fact, when I've seen them let go and laugh really hard.

I thought about what my life would be without laughter and true joy. I might as well be dead. There, literally, would be nothing for me to live for. Seriously, I'm not talking about the kind of smile you get when you watch a comedic prat fall. I mean what your "heart does" that makes your mouth smile when you see a baby laugh or an orchid bloom or feel the pulse of the one you love beneath you rapid as yours. True Joy.

We are a reflection of what our heart is. If you can smile in your heart, you can smile in your face. But if your heart is sad and hurting , find a way to heal it. Our days on this earth are numbered, and you're wasting them, my friend, if you don't.

We've all been through trauma. I'm a child of PTSD. Almost everyday I have to rewire my brain to say I'm okay and safe, but I don't let this keep me from knowing in my heart that beauty, joy, and love exist for me... And neither should you.

Smile with you Heart today!
