My Own Failing Thoughts

My Own "Failing" Thoughts

I come from a broken home, with no traditional upbringing and absolutely no parental or relationship archetypes. So, in intimate relationships I tend to struggle when things are going right.

"Can I hear an Amen?"

When everything is on the right track, I begin to think about what my ultimate goal is for relationship and ask myself how can "this" relationship ever end up becoming what I fantasize relationship should be?

This isn't an uncommon thought, actually. Expectations, however, can ruin everyday of your life if you're not careful. You can expect yourself right out of a perfectly fine relationship with someone who is moving lovingly and compassionately toward you, but, perhaps, not at the speed you wish.

Recently, i was speaking to a client about this very thought. He told me that his level of expectations about himself stymied his life on a daily basis.  Let's face it, the relationship you have with yourself is bound to affect everything in your world, specifically your loving relationships.

Let's start a blog discussion about your level of expectation concerning your current relationship. Is it worthy of your worry and the trauma you are causing in your own soul? Or should you sit back and relax about the small steps and enjoy the great times you have together?

Here are a couple of things you can ask yourself:

1.     Am I happy about who I've chosen? Is this person worthy of the love I give?
2.     Am I getting in return what I give in love and compassion?
3.     Even though you and your partner may not see eye to eye on some particular subjects, have you found a way to curtail any struggle about these subjects, or do they keep coming up in small ways in your relationship?

I'd love to hear your comments and thought.
Bo
